Warm and caring illustrations by Kim Siew for CETC

Bastion Agency needed an artist that could tread carefully and communicate sensitive ideas in a clear and warm manner, Kim Siew was the absolute perfect match for this job. Kim had the brief to create illustrations that expressed ideas and feelings around seeking support for childhood trauma and abuse.

The CETC ( Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care) needed a library of illustrations for their website.

The CETC vision is that organisations and carers can be better equipped with the knowledge, skills and networks to ensure that children and young people experience safe, meaningful and resilient relationships in every form of out-of-home care.

Batemans Bay Bridge mural by artists Nico, David Cragg and Kim Siew

In February 2022, we had the honour of successfully winning a tender and bringing together three amazing mural artists to collaborate on an epic public art job for Transport for NSW, John Holland and the community of Eurobodalla Shire on the new Batemans Bay Bridge crossing the Bhundoo River/Clyde River.

The Bhundoo River (Clyde River), traditionally occupied by the Walbunja people from the Yuin nation, has long been a giving and collective place of stories still to this day.

We thought no better way than to pay our respects to the community, river and elders of this land past, present and future through this artwork titled ‘The Giving River’ by mural artists David Cragg, Kim Siew and Nico.

The artists pulled out all strings with extensive research, consulting with the community, collaborating on a design and eventually painting it, with the help of some amazing assistants, over 10 days on two large surfaces which face each other under the new Batemans Bay Bridge.

The Giving River

Dividing lands, the river brings us together through twists and turns.
Buried stories along its shores never to be forgotten.
Its breathing tides feed new life under Didthul (pigeon house mountain).
A bouquet of Waratahs, Banksias, Wattles, Flannel Flowers, Silver Wattle, Golden Guinea Flowers greet the banks.
Whilst the free swimming fish are hunted under the clear ripples.
Under the watchful eye of Wujaan (white breasted sea eagle)
Wildly creeping pig face flowers, Native Sarsparilla and Lance Beard Heath are picked and eaten.
Midden shells hold stories. Gathered along the rocks.
Emerging later under the starry night sky.
Umbarra, a black duck stands strong as a totem and pillar of strength.
The water in this river has weaved in and out,
Through life and death, through vast country, and sacred places and mountains.
It has lived through the smallest moments over the longest of time.
It needs the respect it deserves for the generations to come across.

Australian Native Tapestry Mural for Stockland Piccadilly Centre

Thanks to Stockland and Piccadilly Shopping Centre for having Blu Del Sol.

Dream Girls splash out in honour of Black Fern for Adidas

Augusto came to us with a lovely brief - Female Creators celebrating Female Athletes.

THE CAMPAIGN CONCEPT IS BORN OUT THE IDEA THAT WHEN THE BLACK FERNS WERE YOUNG, THEY DIDN’T HAVE FEMALE RUGBY PLAYERS TO LOOK UP TO. THE WOMEN’S ARM OF RUGBY WAS ONLY STARTED IN 1991 AND HAD LIMITED EXPOSURE UNTIL RECENTLY. WHICH MEANS THEY HAD TO PUSH TO BE THE GREATEST WITH NO PATH PAVED BEFORE THEM. A PRETTY IMPOSSIBLE TASK.

WE WANT TO CHANGE THIS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF FEMALE ATHLETES BY SHOWING HOW THIS CURRENT BATCH OF BLACK FERNS CAN BE THOSE ROLE MODELS.

The Dream Girls Collective smashed this!

Batemans Bay Bridge - Pier 5

The design for Pier 5 of the new Batemans Bay Bridge draws inspiration from key historical moments in the development of the area throughout the 1800’s and 1900’s. The design incorporates elements of the natural bushland and waterways from the Batemans Bay area which were important to the development of the area and a key reason the settlers thrived.

The most significant features of the area that stood out to the artist when researching the project was the old vertical lift truss bridge that spanned the Clyde River from 1956 to 2021. The artist wanted to give a nod to the old bridge and incorporate it into the design of the mural on the new bridge. The shape and structure of the old bridge is easily recognisable to locals and is an icon of recent history.

Looking back further in time, another iconic structure that sat in the location of the new bridge was Perry’s Timber Mill which was built in 1901 and operated for over 80 years. The timber mill changed many times over the years but the development of each of the buildings can be seen in photographs and illustrations on display at the Batemans Bay Heritage Museum.

Also featured in the artwork is TSS Wallamba, one of the iconic ships that frequented the river carrying timber.

All of these features centred around the Clyde River and brought jobs and prosperity to the area. They also relied and interacted with the natural surroundings and hold significance in the memory of locals.

This artwork was curated by Chulo Creative

Designed and painted by artist Helen Proctor

With the help of Transport for NSW, Eurobodalla Shire Council, Clyde River and Batemans Bay Historical Society and local Walbunja Elders.

DDB for Campaign Brief Agency of the Year

We love working with DDB, and what a treat this one was to support DDB's submission for Campaign Brief Agency of the Year. The brief was to create 3 artworks with a common thread of fun in a retro style, we knew Gerad Taylor was the artist fit for the challenge.

The Duke for Supamart at Freshwater

Kev ODonnell illustrates The Duke for Supamart at Freshwater.

Story goes: Freshwater Beach will always remember that day in the Southern Summer of 1915 when the great aquatic Hawaiian, Duke Kahanamoku gave an amazing exhibition of wave riding with a solid surfboard modeled on the very type used by him in his native Hawaii. Over a period of time while he stayed at the Boomerang Camp at Freshwater, the Duke fashioned a solid board from the local timbers, and it was with this board that he first introduced to the Australian Surfing community the ancient craft of Hawaiian kings - the art of surfboard riding.
